Graphic Design Creates Art from Garbage
Nov 3rd
Guest blogger and SkillsUSA reporter for Graphic Design, Laketa Williams, is excited to tell us about recycled.a.r.t. !
Several students from Graphic Design have taken the recycled.a.r.t challenge. OKC Beautiful and Science Museum Oklahoma are putting on this competition on Saturday, November 19, to “discover the art in recycled trash” and to encourage repurposing recycled material to create art.
This event is in celebration of America Recycles Day!
We are using discarded materials like wire, cans, aluminum, plastic and CDs, to create these creative pieces of art. Instructor BeeDee Stevens turned the contest into a class project. “The recycling competition gives my students the opportunity to explore and create unconventional advertising pieces,” Stevens said.
We were given one week after collecting our “trashy” materials to complete our creations. “Once I was finished, I realized how much I enjoyed working on my project,” student Natara Warrior said. “It really gave me a chance to be creative.” The winners will receive
prizes and be featured on OKC beautiful website and quarterly newsletter. We are very proud of the creativity shown by our class and we wish all the
entrants luck.
