Metro Tech Hunger Fighters Making a Difference
Jan 27th
We are the Metro Tech Hunger Fighters, a group of four students that want to make a difference for the hungry in OKC. We are students in Metro Tech’s Biomedical Sciences Academy. As part of our community service project for HOSA, we chose to support the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (RFBO).
Please meet two of the MT Hunger Fighters and learn a little bit about why the issue of hunger is important to them.
Elizabeth Morris, 16, grew up in Oklahoma City. She comes from a large family and understands the importance of food to feed her family. Elizabeth has a huge heart for her community and is excited to push the Hunger Fighters mission to its fullest potential.
Melanie Stromie, 17, has experienced the struggle of making ends meet at home. Her family had money problems and at times it was hard keeping food on the table. She wants to help feed other families that know what hunger feels like. Melanie is proud to be a MT Hunger Fighter!
The MT Hunger Fighters chose to support the buy cialis RFBO after touring the facility. “We did an exercise to try to find food on a limited or non-existent budget, Melanie said. “We saw firsthand how RFBO grows some of their own food and distributes food to feed OKCs hungry”.
This year, the Hunger Fighters are raising awareness about hunger by visiting their peers and at elementary schools about talking to them about resources and ways to help fight hunger in Oklahoma. “We will be hosting food drives and a fundraising run,” Elizabeth said. “We really want to spread our message and gain even more momentum”. The Hunger Fighters are hoping to host
a run on the Metro Tech Springlake campus on March 30, 2012.
We care about our community. We are students who believe we can make a difference. We are the Metro Tech Hunger Fighters.
Please show your support by liking our Facebook page to learn about our upcoming events.
We ask that you repost this blog on your Facebook and Twitter pages to help us spread the word and eliminate hunger in our community.
SBC Spreads Holiday Cheer!
Dec 12th
South Bryant Campus students and staff played Santa to 193 children by giving stuffed stockings to the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma.
The generously stuffed stockings overflowed with toys, snacks, hats, stickers, bubbles, jump ropes, candy, crayons, coloring books, and games for both girls and boys. The Red Cross will distribute the stockings throughout the OKC area to organizations like Head Start, Latino Community Development Agency, community parks and libraries. Participating classes
included Graphic Design, HVACR, Electrical, CADD, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, ESL and the Academic Center. The feeling of joy filled the room and hopefully will be felt when the children receive
their stockings. Students said the project gave them the “warm and fuzzies”.
A big pat on the back goes to SBC for all of their work in caring for the community.

Community Service – On & Off Campus
Sep 26th
The Metro Technology Centers 2011-2012 school year is
off to a great start. Second year students are back in work mode with first years’ are just beginning their journey.
This year our Business Professionals of America members have already started working on various projects. We serve our community on and off campus.
We started in August with the Administrative Assistant students rallying everyone for our Cereal Drive to feed the ITC students’ breakfast during our morning break. This service project was started by Ms. Cynthia Samuels, Administrative Assistant Instructor. She believed that there was a need to help the students that were not getting breakfast at home before heading off to class. The project snowballed and now all ITC Students and Instructors donate all the goods needed for a bowl of cereal. We feed an average of 50 students a day. Now that’s a lot of milk and cereal. Our drive goes through May, 2012. If you would like to donate cereal, milk or disposable bowls and cutlery, drop them off at the ACE campus at 201 NE 48th.
Mrs. Lyon-Lee’s Computer, Repair and Networking students BPA community projects started with a Food Drive to gather items for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. They visited each classroom to ask students to donate non perishable food items and toiletries to their boxes located in front of their classroom. The Food Drive is a continuous effort with items donated to the food bank weekly.
I must say it’s a little different for us, Information Technology Center students. We are currently in the Adult Continuing Education (ACE) building due to the flooding at our regular building, ITC, earlier this year. I feel out of the loop not being on the main campus. I miss the scenery and lunch at the Metro Cafe. I also miss all the windows in my old classroom in the ITC Building. The lighting was excellent and you had a beautiful view of Springlake. There are hardly any windows in the ACE Building and I honestly feel trapped inside most days. The atmosphere is dull and our classroom is in the back of the building with no windows at all. I can’t wait for the day when the ITC students, faculty and staff come together in January 2012 to say, “Bus Driver….Move that BUS!” and we get to come home to ITC.
But through it all, we come together and make the most of our current location.
8th Graders and College Tours
May 9th
Hello Everyone,
Dream Casting is a great gift and talent. I stood with my children from Crooked Oak Middle School as they began to dream for themselves. Together we walked college campus of Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma City Community College, listened to instructors, took pictures, prayed in chapels and dreamed out loud. I was so proud to stand on the corners of dreams. Each generation must work to ensure the next generation feels loved, that they feel needed and to show them their lives matter.
Crooked Oak students had a chance to walk college campuses and place themselves solidly in the future they envision. As a Career Counselor my job is to show the pathways to success, give the keys to wisdom, plant the seeds of hope and shine the light of inspiration. I felt like a proud parent to 63 young leaders. I don’t see my children as others see them; I see them in the light of potential. I see youth not as they are, but as they could be. Each student is born and destined for greatness. I honestly believe this. When I encounter difficult children I look past the attitude and search for the unsaid pain, hurt and sadness. If you are able to see all the unsaid things then you are able to see a child that desires love, acceptance and for someone to believe in them.
So when you see the generic viagra price future do not judge them so harshly because you have no idea how much courage it takes for this generation to rise above and become someone special.

Gifts that Metro Tech has Given Me
Feb 17th
Gift # 1: Anyone who goes to Metro Tech is seeking to gain the necessary skills for their chosen career path. This is an understatement. I came here with virtually nothing in regards to training for Administrative Assistant (my major at Metro Tech). I am now fully confident in the skills I’ve acquired. This is a big stepping stone that will help me further my career in business.
Along with my extensive training, I’ve gained something that I didn’t expect; personal development. As I was given the opportunity to take a leadership role as the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Class
President, I’ve learned so much about people and even more about myself.
Gift # 2: Metro Tech has exposed me to people that I love having in my life, priceless. In a matter of months, we grew as a family. It was unreal. I feel so comfortable with my classmates, other students, my teacher and all of the staff I have gotten to know at Metro Tech.
My classmates and I have an amazing support system, and we’re always pushing each other to go further and to do better. It’s a truly awesome gift to gain different insights from each other. My teacher is always there for me. It’s comforting to have such a strong person watching out for me. As for the staff, there is nothing they won’t do to help me achieve my goals.
Gift # 3: Words cannot express the endless amount of opportunity Metro Tech has given me. From volunteering in my community to being a leader, I have several opportunities to pay it forward. We have worked events like raising money for the United Way through a Garage Sale. Students and staff donated clothes, toys, and appliances and we worked the sale from beginning to end.
At the Festival de las Americas parade we showed support to our cherished Hispanic community. Over 80 students marched the streets of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, representing our school.
The biggest honor was to volunteer during the Creativity World Forum. This spectacular event was to promote advancement in all areas of life through creativity. This was the first time the
forum had been held in the United States and Oklahoma City was chosen. I knew this was a once-of-a-lifetime opportunity and because of Metro Tech, I was able to take it.
With all of the opportunities to giving back to the community; there is ample amount of opportunity for professional development. “Winning the Workplace Challenge” was a workshop held at Metro Tech. The workshop taught exercises on how to deal with conflict in the workplace. There was also the BPA’s Fall Leadership Conference. I had the honor of meeting the BPA State President. I attended his workshop and learned a lot more about what it is to be a leader and what it can mean for me, my career and my community.
Metro Technology Centers has given me more than what I expected and for that I am grateful.
THANK YOU METRO TECH!!!
MCA HAS THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!!
Jan 7th
MCA students have been extremely giving this holiday season. On Thursday December 16th, Mrs. Graham and Ms. Rodgers’ students stuffed stockings for the Red Cross while Mr. and Mrs. Britt took students to the Salvation Army to assist the needy.
The advisory students of Graham and Rodgers stuffed 200 stockings filled with candy, toys, school supplies, and hygiene products for the Red Cross to pass out to less fortunate children. During the previous week, students, teachers, and Metro Tech staff collected items to place in the stockings. The students enjoyed particpating in this event. Ryan Blair said, “I enjoyed the project and I hope I made a child’s Christmas a little brighter this year.”
On December 16th, SWAGG volunteered at the Salvation Army Toys for Tots city wide distribution. (SWAGG = Students With Oustounding Gear and Goals) Thousands of families benefit from this annual event. Members of SWAGG volunteered from 10:15am until 1:30pm. The ladies were inside runners. They were responsible for loading the gifts into baskets and bringing them to the front. The men took the women’s baskets and loaded them with food, then transported the boxes of food, and the bags of toys to the families vehicles where they were loaded into the vehicles as well. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Britt and our students for all you do!!!
MCA CAN SING!!!
Dec 10th
On Tuesday December 7th, Ms. Brenda Anderson and Ms. Tonya Walker organized a community service with student volunteers. They took 8 MCA students to sing Christmas carols and visit with the nursing home residents of two Grace Living Centers on the northeast side of town. Ms. Anderson said, “The students were nervous
at first, but really loosened up and enjoyed this project.”

Student Phillip Largent said, “He was grateful that he could be a part of creating some happiness for the patients.”
Thank you Ms. Anderson, Ms. Walker, and the MCA students for providing goodness and service to our community.
